Prerequisites & documents to check

Before any act · baptism, marriage, transfer, funeral, child dedication: what to verify, and which documents to gather. Tick on screen for one case, or print a blank sheet.

The boxes aren't saved: each case starts from a blank sheet. This tool is calibrated for France / Réunion (civil marriage required before the religious one); adapt to your jurisdiction.

Baptism

Adult

→ Prepare the ceremony: visit, spiritual side, order of service, reverse timeline · Administrative operations (Church Manual)

Minor · additionally

To confirm locally: the terms of parental authority (routine act / major act) fall under civil law; have the "both parents' agreement" rule validated by your conference or a lawyer before fixing it.
Domain 2

Marriage

The legal prerequisite

⚠ Criminal risk · never neglect it

Celebrating a religious marriage without a prior civil marriage is an offence: Article 433-21 of the Penal Code · 1 year imprisonment and €7,500 for the minister of religion who does so "habitually" (from the 2nd time). Requiring the civil certificate also indirectly covers legal freedom to marry: the mayor has already verified that neither is already married and that any divorce is final.

The Church side

Remarriage / blended family · an online kit, for the couple to fill in then bring to the interview: survey & balance, modular sheets, communicating with the children. Answers kept locally, nothing is sent.

Funerals

The civil-registry side · which you don't handle, but must know is done before you officiate.

Marker (France / Réunion): the urn may not be kept at home indefinitely and ashes may not be divided; scattering is forbidden on public roads and on private property without authorization. Options: burial of the urn, columbarium, sealing to a monument, or scattering in a garden of remembrance or in open nature with a declaration to the town hall of the place of birth. Outside France: many countries allow keeping the urn at home or other uses · do not presume; check local law and refer to the funeral directors. Church-wise: no Adventist position mandates or forbids cremation · discernment and respect for the family.

Image, recording & sharing

Filming or photographing a ceremony and sharing it (social media, live-streamed service) engages image rights and data protection. The detail varies by country; the principle of consent applies everywhere.

Marker (France / EU): GDPR + image rights · written consent recommended, especially for public broadcast. Outside the EU: check local law, but keep consent as the baseline rule.
References: Church Manual · baptism and vow, marriage / divorce / remarriage (pp. 70, 163-166), rites (ch. 32); transfer (secretary's procedure). French legal framework: Article 433-21 of the Penal Code; funeral formalities · death declared within 24 h, burial permit issued by the town hall, burial deadline extended to 14 days (July 2024 reform). This is not legal advice: points of civil law (parental authority, transcription, formalities and exact documents) are to be confirmed with your conference or a local lawyer.
